Open Access and the Wessex Institute of Technology’s eLibrary

Open Access is the way of the future when it comes to published materials. In the past Open Access was related solely to the expiration of copyright on texts, but now the world of academia is tending towards having full Open Access journals. Some higher education establishments are wary of this new trend, but such is not the case with Wessex Institute of Technology.

WIT has introduced an eLibrary that contains over 28,000 peer reviewed articles in Open Access. There exist other journal databases such as EBSCO Host and Google Scholar that provide links to some Open Access materials, but Wessex Institute of Technology’s eLibrary is unique in having solely Open Access material.

The content of the articles deals primarily with work in the fields of science and engineering. Included in their collections are journals such as the International Journal of Safety and Security Engineering and the International Journal of Energy Production and Management.

WIT’s eLibrary truly is pioneering the path for the use of Open Access journals and articles among higher education establishments. In so doing it is expanding the audience that can enter into the academic conversation.
